Play Rugby USA, a longtime Up2Us member organization, is creating new opportunities for kids all over the US to experience the power and fun of rugby. Mark Griffin, CEO, and Dallen Stafford, LA Program Manager, will represent Play Rugby at the Change The Game Conference. In Los Angeles, Play Rugby USA (PRUSA) was founded in 2010 and has worked with well over 2,000 boys and girls through partnerships with other organizations such as the After-School All-Stars (ASAS), Inner City Education Foundation (ICEF) Beyond the Bell (BTB) and LA’s Best programs. PRUSA focuses on Elementary and Middle Schools, giving students in grades 4-8 an opportunity to take part in a team sport, learn the 5 values in action at the core of Play Rugby programming, and have fun. Play Rugby is well known for it’s game-based practices and its unique re-designed tournament structure. You’ll learn more about these two fascinating aspects of their program at Change the Game.
As a past USA National Rugby Team player Mark has recently held two professional national leadership positions in rugby. Mark founded Play Rugby USA in June 2003 as a wellness and prevention resource for America’s urban youth with a philosophy of “developing youth through rugby.” As President Mark has combined his passion for youth development and entrepreneurship with an intrinsic ability to establish buy-in with key stakeholders at multiple levels.
Dallen’s role in LA is to help develop new relationships with after school partners and nurture the existing ones to help give as many students as possible to try rugby and the positive character traits it can teach. Dallen came on board in the fall of 2011, immediately after his return from New Zealand with the men’s USA Rugby team at the Rugby World Cup where he was team media manager.
The addition of these two PRUSA staff brings a wealth of sports and youth development knowledge to Change The Game LA.
